The National name of Qatar is Dawlat Qatar. Official name of the country is State of Qatar. The country is an Arab emirate, located in Southwest Asia. Qatar Peninsula is situated on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Persian Gulf bounds the country around. It shares its border with Saudi Arabia to the south. The capital city Doha, is located at 25 17 N, 51 32 E.
Qatar had been the headquarters and one of the main launching sites of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. Qatari living standard is very high. Qatar’s The Aspire Tower, built for the Asian Games, is visible across Doha. Qatar has also set up an education city, which comprises international colleges. The country also aspires to build an entertainment city in near future. Qatar’s main future plans include the aim to turn up to be the role model for economic and social transformation in the Middle East. Al Jazeera, a leading English and Arabic news channel, was originated in Qatar.
Muhammad ibn Thani al-Thani was announced the ruler of Qatar by the British to restore peace in the region. In 1916 Qatar became a British protectorate. After World War II, British power started diminishing. After British declaration that it would loosen its hold in politics in the Persian Gulf, Qatar joined in a federation with Bahrain and seven other Trucial coastal regions. Soon after the merger, Qatar and Bahrain came out if it. On 3rd September 1971, Qatar declared independence. In 1991, Qatar played a prominent role in Gulf war when in the Battle of Khafji, it rolled tanks through the streets for helping Saudi Arabian National Guard troops to fight against Iraqi troops. Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was crowned, overthrowing his father Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani in 1995.

Judicial branch comprises Courts of First Instance, Appeal, and Cassation courts, an Administrative Court and a Constitutional Court.
There is no existence of any political party. Suffrage is universal at 18 since 1999.
