Island countries

This is a list of island countries.

At least 36 island countries have no land borders,[1] but on at least 8 islands, there are land borders with at least one non-continental sovereign country.[2]

Many island countries are spread over an archipelago, as is the case with the Federated States of Micronesia and the Philippines (which consists of thousands of islands). Others consist of a single island, such as Nauru. Some islands are not universally recognized as politically independent.
